Dry Rocks

Key Largo, FL
Florida National Marine Sanctuary

The figure of Christ  25 ft under the blue waters of the ocean.

chofabyssDry Rocks in Key Largo, Florida is home to the awesome experience of seeing the Christ statue at a depth of 25 feet.  arms raised to the surface beckon scuba divers of all levels to the warm waters that are the keys in Florida.  be sure to bring a camera and get your picture taken with an amazing backdrop.

Located in a sand channel on the offshore side of Key Largo Dry Rocks, the statue lies amongst a surrounding filled with coral and fishes of every color.  This site is not only for scuba divers as snorkelers try to get as close as possible to the Christ figure. The statue area is perfect for beginning divers. Though shallow, less than 25ft.(8 m), a dive here is always interesting. Snorkelers will be suprised with the corals growing only a few feet below the surface. On days with good visibility divers should not go to far before checking direction and the flow of the current. Divers should be aware of boat traffic and surface carefully and stay close to shallow parts of the reef for protection.

The statue of Christ was cast in Italy and donated by producent of scuba equipment Egidi Cressi to the Underwater Society of America  in 1961.In January 1964 it began traveling south Florida on display finally arriving at Pennekamp Park in the spring of 1965. On August 25, 1965, statue was lowered into the current location. Nearly 200 underwater weddings have place near the Christ of abyss.
